Opposition Reborn
Opposition Reborn |
When the then Prime Minister Edward Heath decided to sell his successful offshore racer Morning Cloud he insisted that the name stay with him, so somewhat tongue-in-cheek the new owner Tony Morgan renamed the yacht Opposition. Opposition has for many years been owned by Royal Thames member Jamie Matheson and kept on the Clyde and the West Coast of Scotland. At the end of last year Jamie decided that Oppo's deck should be replaced ('a job I had rather hoped would be undertaken by the next owner of Opposition' he ruefully remarked at the time).
So Oppo came south, back to her place of birth in Clare Lallow's shed in Cowes. As all of us who have ever owned and maintained an old boat know, 'looking underneath' can be an expensive pastime - and as Jamie discovered, when it came to replacing Opposition's deck, one thing just led to another.

Congratulations, Jamie, on your exemplary stewardship of a classic yacht.
