Clubhouse

The Knightsbridge Clubhouse is a haven for those who want a relaxing and exclusive land base in London. In common with other leading London Clubs (originally all called "Gentlemen's Clubs"), the Royal Thames started in a coffee house and the Club's dining room is still called the "Coffee Room". There are also bars, reading rooms and cabins for those staying in London.

A friendly welcome, fine food and comfortable accommodation is guaranteed. The Club has a distinguished cellar and a tradition of serving superb wines at reasonable cost. There is a wide range of social events for members, all summarised on this website.

The Clubhouse is also available for many different types of function. Each must be sponsored by a member, which can be arranged through the Club Secretary.  Functions are generally held in rooms overlooking Hyde Park and may be on a large scale or small, ranging from private meetings, dinners and lectures to class association gatherings, wedding receptions and bigger corporate dinners for up to 174.

Members and guests are expected to maintain a standard of dress in conformity with the tradition and atmosphere of the Club.  ‘Business Casual’ is appropriate throughout the Clubhouse at all times except during weekday evenings after 7pm on the Quarterdeck, in the Cumberland Bar and Coffee Room dining room as specified below.

For the avoidance of doubt, gentlemen are not required to wear a jacket or tie for breakfast nor in the Britannia Bar subject to a collared shirt to be worn at all times by gentlemen. From 1100 on weekdays on the Quarterdeck, in the Cumberland Bar and in the Coffee Room dining room, gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and shirt with collar/roll-neck sweater (ties optional) and ladies should dress appropriately. Members and guests should avoid any form of dress that might cause offence. The minimum acceptable weekday dress in the ground floor public rooms and on the Britannia Deck is polo shirt, chinos and sailing shoes or equivalent.

After 1900 Monday – Thursday, gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and tie on the Quarterdeck, in the Cumberland Bar and in the Coffee Room dining room.  Ladies should dress appropriately.

After 1600 on Friday -0700 on Monday, the weekend dress code is smart casual that may include smart jeans (not frayed, holed or dirty).
