Congratulations to the RTYC Round the Island Team

Congratulations are in store for the three boats and their crew who competed for the club trophy in last weekend's Round the Island Race.

William Edwards and his crew on board Sardonyx not only completed the race (an impressive feat in itself), but also finished first in class. Nick Atkinson's Firefly, second in class, and John Manzoni's Matterhorn who also completed the race. All three were in the ISC division. Whilst more boats retired than finished the race, the RTYC team persevered, and it paid off, placing them 3rd in the club rankings, only 3 points behind Royal Corinthian in 2nd and 5 points behind Island Sailing Club in 1st.

As we all know, sailing is challenging when there is wind, and even more challenging when there is very little wind, so this race tested the sailors' powers of concentration for well over 10 long hours. Out of the 1584 boats which entered only 717 finished the race.

Well done to all RTYC members who participated in this iconic race.
