Yacht MARIQUITA wins Regates Royales and Panerai Trophy 2014

Yacht Mariquita wins the Big Boat class at the Regates Royales in Cannes to secure the Big Boat Panerai series for 2014. The owners: John Caulcutt, Stephen Hemsley, Jamie Matheson and crew of Mariquita were confirmed champions at the prize-giving held in Cannes on Saturday 27th September where they collected the coveted Panerai Trophy after edging yacht Halloween into second place. Owner and helmsman John Caulcutt said ”It's a great achievement. To win the Panerai Trophy in only our second season with a new young crew is a huge thrill. I'd like to thank everyone involved in the project.”
Amid exciting scenes at the prize-giving, Mariquita's crew were generously cheered onto the podium by her closest rivals Mooonbeam IV and Moonbeam III. Mariquita's win marks a high point for the owners who took the boat on at the end of the 2012 season with the express aim of securing the Panerai trophy. Mariquita won three Panerai regattas during the 2014 season at Vele d’Epoca a Porto Santo Stefano in Argentario, Copa del Rey in Mahon and Regates Royales in Cannes. The overall win for the season was a great achievement for the young crew headed up by skipper George Newman, mate Matty Oates and bosun Billy Butler. Mariquita last won the Panerai Trophy in 2007.
