J/70 Open Day Report

20 members took part in the second J/70 Open Day, which was coached by Charlie Esse who is one of the most successful J/70 sailors in the UK and the international circuit.

A perfect 12kts and sunny skies provided the ideal setting for the members to get to know the J/70s. After a downwind blast towards Hill Head, the 5 boats gathered in Osborne Bay for a series of short course fleet racing, with coaching from Charlie. With such a tight course, members had plenty of opportunities to practice manoeuvres.

By the end of the session, there was a marked improvement in every crew, and each member commented on how much they enjoyed the day.

Shepards Wharf Marina is proving to be a fantastic location for our members to sail out of, with a state of the art boat lifting crane, the boats are launched and recovered with ease and efficiency. The onsite restaurant ‘Amabi’ welcomes RTYC members, and are happy to provide packed lunches, breakfasts and apr├Ęs sailing refreshments, as well as offering RTYC  a place to hold their hold their briefings. The Sugar Store is currently undergoing redevelopment, and once complete, it will be the ideal Regatta Centre for which to run sailing events out of.
