RYA thanks RTYC for the Club’s support of the GB Sailing Team by offering members a sneak preview of the sailors who will represent GB at Rio 2016

As a thank you to RTYC for the generous honorary membership given to all of the GBR Sailing Team who are working towards competing in Rio 2016, the RYA announced the first wave of athletes selected to represent our nation in the next Olympic Games at 60 Knightsbridge on Tuesday 8th September.

Current and previous Flag Officers along with committee members were invited to attend the announcement, as well as listen to a presentation given by Stephen Park and the selected sailors. An in depth question and answer session followed, which offered members the opportunity to find out about the challenges which the sailors face, especially surrounding the water quality in Rio. The sailors were keen to share their stories of their experiences in Rio so far.

Stephen and the team shed light on the monumental task involved with getting the whole team, which includes over 40 shore based support staff, out to Rio in order to facilitate the training programme and ensure that the sailors are kept in good health.

The selected sailors are:
Giles Scott: Finn (Men’s One Person Dinghy Heavy)
Nick Thompson: Laser (Men’s One Person Dinghy)
Alison Young: Laser Radial (Women’s One Person Dinghy)
Luke Patience and Elliot Willis: 470 Men (Men’s Two Person Dinghy)
Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark: 470 Women (Women’s Two Person Dinghy)
Bryony Shaw: RS:X Women (Women’s Windsurfer)
