15/02/2016

Two places have become available for the fully booked private tour of Fortnum & Mason followed by a three course dinner with wine at the Club on Thursday 18th February 2016.

If interested please contact Lucia in the Secretariat on 020 7201 6267 or at membersadmin@royalthames.com.

From candles and caviar, to Shackleton and Burton and Taylor’s Cleopatra, Fortnum’s archivist Andrea Tanner will take you on a 308-year trip through the lesser known facts and fantasies about Fortnum & Mason. It will cover the tea trade, the Victorian vogue for picnics, and catering for Nawabs and Maharajahs in the 1930s. And honey – there will be quite a lot about honey.

Andrea Tanner has looked after the history of Fortnum & Mason for many years. A one-time genealogist at the College of Arms, she is also a Senior Research Fellow at the University of London, and honorary archivist of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her favourite tea is Rose Pouchong.
