President's Cup Report

Seven teams took to the water to contest the third annual President’s Cup, an invitational fleet racing event for the younger members of UK clubs. The eight hotly-contested races saw four teams claim race victories, with positions often decided right on the line. The RTYC team, skippered by Ben Gratton, got off to an excellent start, with two wins and two seconds in the first four races. Will Jackson’s Sea View Yacht Club had a rather up and down day, but managed to scoop a pair of race wins, as did Matt Moseley for Serpentine. Tom Preston’s Royal Yacht Squadron team also posted a win, as part of a very consistent series.

Despite losing someone overboard in the freezing reservoir water during race four, the Oxford team showed great spirit to rally and post their best scores in the last few races. After eight races, with two discards allowed, the Serpentine took third, just a point behind RYS, with the Royal Thames  crowned champions  for the first time.

Overall, a great day was had by all, and our thanks must go to the entire organising team: Emily Parker for successfully running the event for the third year; Sarah Hornby for once again helping tirelessly behind the scenes and on the day, Honor Fell for really pushing the event; and Matt Blachford for volunteering to provide match support.
