RTYC Invitational Cup

This was a new event aimed at good sailors who are aspiring team racers intending to provide sailors with a stepping stone into keelboat  team racing (two boats team racing with a downwind finish).
The event was open to invited yacht clubs with a gender restriction designed to encourage female participation.
Owing to the fact that the event had to be moved from its original date due to a lack of water at Queen Mary in September a number of teams had to drop out.  The London Corinthian, the Royal Yacht Squadron, Spinnaker Sailing Club and the Royal Thames Yacht Club assembled at Queen Mary on Saturday 22nd October to enjoy almost perfect team racing conditions albeit at times the breeze went very light.
A total of 12 races were run with two flights of 4 on the water at any one time and London Corinthian emerged the clear winner with no losses followed by  the Royal Yacht Squadron second with 2 losses followed by RTYC with 4 losses  and Spinnaker SC with 6.
The feedback afterwards from the competitors was most positive and particular thanks goes to the hard working umpire team under Chief Umpire Chris Simon (VC Bernard Kinchin, George Ehlers, Bill Wyatt and Tricia Neri) and also the Race officers under Linda Pennington and Jenny Woods with assistance from Joanna Lees ashore.
