RTYC Members at Cowes Week


Congratulations to all RTYC members who took part in the 2016 edition of AAM Cowes Week. It was a fantastic regatta with over 8500 competitors racing in the Solent.

Some notable achievements from the following RTYC members include;

Adam Gosling with Yes! impressively won the Black Group overall for the fifth year in a row with six firsts, and one second to discard, as well as taking the title for IRC 3. Sam Laidlaw in Aguila took third in Black Group overall and won the Quarter Ton fleet.

Second in IRC 3 was Peter Morton’s Salvo.

Richard Powell and Andrew Sutherland took third place in the Cork 1720 fleet with Rogan Josh.

Peter Bainbridge with Whisper won Cruiser Division B.

Sir Richard Ottaway and Andrew Norton finished third in the Daring class with Decoy.

Sir Keith Mills’ Fast 40+ Invictus came third in class.

The RTYC fleet of J/70s had a cracking week, with two boats finishing in the top three places, and all three of the top three finishers are RTYC Younger Members. Academician Jack Davies won the J/70 fleet, with YM Ali Hall coming in second place and the Academy, skippered by Claire Lasko finishing in third for the whole week, and third in the J/70 Short Series. Jack Davies also won the Under 25 Trophy and the Young Skipper’s Trophy.

Tony Hayward with Quarter Tonner Blackfun came second class.
