How To Join

The Royal Thames is welcoming new members and we look forward celebrating our 250th Anniversary with everyone in 2025.

The process of joining the Royal Thames Yacht Club is as follows; please follow the steps noted below.

  1. Click the following link or the button below and complete the E-form, please click here.
  2. Once the form has been completed your Proposer, Seconder and Supporter (if applicable) should receive an email from us telling them that they have been nominated by you to Propose/Second/Support your application to become a member of the Royal Thames, and asking them to complete their respective E-forms.
  3. As soon as all necessary information has been submitted from all relevant parties (i.e. Applicant, Proposer, Seconder and/or Supporter) the application will be sent to Membership Manager to present to the Membership Committee.
  4. The proposal must be supported by at least one of the following
  • General Committee
  • Sailing Committee
  • Membership Committee
  • Current or former Flag Officer

*A third supporter from one of these groups is required if neither the Proposer or Seconder meet the criteria.

Membership Applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee on a monthly basis. The Committee will not accept applications unless the full Membership Application Form is completed in all its sections.

Providing the Membership Committee approves the application, which may be after a personal interview, candidates will be nominated for election to the Club. The names of all nominated candidates are displayed on the Club's Notice Board and website for a period of two weeks and subject to no comment from current members, the candidate will be elected to membership of the Club.

Most candidates are elected within a one to two month period. They are then sent a letter welcoming them to the Club.

If there are any issues or potential problems, including difficulties in assembling enough members to support the candidate's application, do contact the Membership Manager or the Rear Commodore (Membership) to discuss ways forward. The Club welcomes interesting and relevant new members, particularly those well known to and recommended by their proposers, and does not want to let these procedures become an issue.
